Connecticut-born Nigerian American R&B songstress AFRICAINE has officially unveiled her highly anticipated debut EP, For Me, This Time. The project arrives as a definitive statement of arrival for the independent artist, serving as a vulnerable yet self-assured exploration of growth, creative freedom, and feminine empowerment. By blending foundational R&B and soul roots with afropop sensibilities and broader Pan-African influences, AFRICAINE has crafted a collection that feels both deeply personal and culturally resonant.
Drawing inspiration from luminaries such as Alicia Keys, Jazmine Sullivan, Tiwa Savage, and Amaarae, AFRICAINE weaves a narrative centered on the necessity of choosing oneself. The eight-track EP reflects her unique background, shaped by her gospel roots, a tri-state New York perspective, and her Southeastern Nigerian heritage. Throughout the project, she traverses the emotional textures of becoming, moving through themes of heartbreak, grief, affirmation, and joy with intentionality and emotional truth.
The creative process behind the EP was as diverse as its sound. While much of the record was cultivated in the artist’s home studio, the track ‘Whatever’ was developed in Los Angeles alongside GRAMMY-nominated producer Rob Aragón through a series of instinctive, live-recorded sessions. Other moments highlight her experimental approach; ‘Before’ was written and recorded entirely without instrumental backing to ensure the raw emotion led the narrative, while the title track, ‘For Me, This Time,’ was birthed from the atmospheric production of TUC, known for his work with Wizkid and Oxlade. 
Highlights from the EP include ‘Whatever,’ a powerful anthem of self-worth and confidence, and ‘Burn,’ which masterfully captures the complex aftermath of a relationship’s collapse. The track ‘Give It Away’ features a standout contribution from JUNO Award-nominated musician Nonso Amadi, adding a layer of warmth to the project. With For Me, This Time, AFRICAINE establishes a clear sense of ownership over her artistry, continuing her mission to empower women to dream bigger and create without boundaries.
