Michal Gutman’s artistic journey continues with a carefully structured singles project that reflects her unique approach to music making. Performing as a one woman band, Gutman builds her sound using bass guitar, loop station, two microphones, and a touch pad synthesizer, transforming the stage into a layered sonic landscape shaped entirely by her hands and voice.
The project unfolds gradually, with individual songs released over time rather than as a single collection. Its title track, ‘War boys’, is the second song to be released and arrived in September 2025. This method of release allows Gutman to focus attention on each composition while maintaining a broader narrative across the project’s lifespan.
Musically, Gutman’s work is described as a patchwork of harmony and disharmony. Elements of theatrical cabaret meet the rhythmic drive of an 80’s dance floor, while moments of dreamlike ambience soften the edges. Polyrhythmics and contradicting loops play a central role, creating movement and tension that gently push sound beyond conventional structures.
At the heart of the project lies Gutman’s continued exploration of identity during catastrophe. She examines how personal grief and society’s grief intersect, and how beauty can exist within those overlapping emotional spaces. These ideas are embedded in the music itself, expressed through sound design, rhythm, and atmosphere rather than overt statements.

This singles project follows Gutman’s first solo album, “Never Coming Home”, released in 2024, which marked a significant step in her solo career. Prior to that, she spent over a decade touring and recording with her band, Whaling Snails, releasing “Songs For Yael” in 2015 and “The Wind Around Your Heart” in 2019.
With ‘War boys’ and the releases that follow, Gutman continues to refine her voice as a solo artist. The project stands as both a continuation of her past work and a focused step forward, offering listeners a slow building experience rooted in experimentation, storytelling, and emotional depth.
