Michael Aldag shares ‘Crying in the Club‘, a heartfelt synth pop EP inspired by love, loss and self discovery.
Michael Aldag unveils his new EP ‘Crying in the Club’, a five track collection that transforms personal heartbreak into luminous synth pop. Co written and produced with Robin Stjernberg, the record explores love, loss and fleeting moments of connection through a palette inspired by 80s soundscapes. It is a project that feels both cinematic and deeply human, with each song carrying immediacy, storytelling and emotional precision.
At the heart of the EP is the lead single ‘3minutes’, a song that encapsulates Aldag’s signature balance between intimacy and energy. The track opens with delicate synth tones and a subtle bassline, before expanding into layers of retro textures that frame his clear, emotive vocal delivery. The verses carry a sense of longing and missed opportunity, expressed in lines like, “I know that you’re over me / But one chance is all I need / To heal you, make it right / I search you through the night / I find you in the chaos and the lights.”
As the chorus unfolds, lush harmonies, rhythmic percussion and atmospheric synths bring a nostalgic pulse reminiscent of classic 80s pop: “Your eyes lock mine in a hopeless place / I feel our minds entwined through time and space / But the drums don’t stop and you walk away / I only missed you by 3 minutes, babe.” In the bridge, Aldag’s repetition of “crying in the club” becomes a rhythmic motif, evolving from full production to isolated voice, capturing both the vulnerability and catharsis of the moment.
Explaining the inspiration behind the song, Aldag notes, “3minutes is a reference to the length of a song that prevented me from reaching my ex-girlfriend on a club dance floor. Nothing else.” That detail gives the track its pulse, real, immediate and deeply personal.
Beyond ‘3minutes’, the EP includes songs such as ‘Happy’ and ‘Saturday’, continuing the exploration of heartbreak, longing and reflection.
As Aldag describes with tongue in cheek sincerity, “’Crying in the Club’ is an EP that will likely change the course of music history forever. I am excited to see the seismic reaction to yet another 5 track project about someone’s ex-girlfriend. People have called it ‘visionary’, others have called it ‘profound and brave’, I just call it ‘mine’.”
With ‘Crying in the Club’, Michael Aldag refines his sound while staying emotionally transparent. The EP glows with 80s infused production and lyrical openness, proving that even heartbreak can become pop gold.
