Inside ‘Agnostic’, Daya turns mood and minimalism into a confessional alt pop slow burn

Daya maps heartbreak and growth on ‘Agnostic’, third single from ‘Til Every Petal Drops’, album due October 10 on ONErpm.

The architecture of ‘Agnostic’ is sparse and deliberate. Daya leans on haunting synths, a brooding undertow of bass, and a rhythm that moves like breath held just a moment longer than expected. The sound bed is moody alt pop, the core is unfiltered self examination, and together they form a space that feels private even as the hook draws you closer. The tension smolders rather than explodes, which makes the intimacy feel earned.

“It’s about finding your way through the wave of numbness that follows the end of a relationship,” she shares. “Creating it felt like stepping into new territory for me with the production, and vocally, it was one of my favorites to write.”

This single is the third taste of ‘Til Every Petal Drops’, arriving October 10 via ONErpm. It is Daya’s first album length statement since ‘Sit Still, Look Pretty’ in 2016, a gap that frames the new project as a deeper look at heartbreak, healing, and growth. The 4x Platinum, Grammy winning artist stretches into fresh textures and candid storytelling, presenting a view that is at once more raw and more refined.

A live flash offered a preview to fans. At Lollapalooza, Gryffin brought Daya out at Perry’s for a surprise performance of ‘Feel Good’. That unannounced turn energized the festival crowd and suggested that momentum is gathering as the album’s release date nears.

The calendar adds an anniversary of note. 2025 marks ten years since ‘Hide Away’ introduced Daya to a global audience at 16. The track holds a 4X platinum certification and nearly 700 million streams. Its recent Alan Walker remix has crossed 20 million streams and inspired more than 300K pieces of social media content, while an alternate version dropped in April, drawing new listeners back to the song.

Two major DJ collaborations are on the way, and with the album locked for October, ‘Agnostic’ serves as both a window and a waypoint.
