Texas-based alt artist Novulent returns with “new low,” a track confronting desperation and emotional damage.

Alt-pop shapeshifter Novulent introduces their next musical chapter with the emotionally potent “new low,” the first single from their upcoming third album, VOL.3. Out now via Capitol Records, the track continues the introspective, storytelling style fans have come to expect.

Speaking on the meaning behind the track, Novulent shares: “The song talks about being so desperate to be with someone that you’ve hit a new low mentally to stay with them. Peeling back their personality more and more, you see how awful they are but, in desperation and wishful thinking, you still stay with them, accepting what they are – a ‘beautiful poison.’”

The new single sets the emotional tone for VOL.3, which Novulent describes as “the highs and lows, the anger, the happiness, the good, the ugly and more” of a love story. With early 2000s films like Thirteen and All About Lily Chou-Chou serving as references, the album promises to play out like a raw and visceral coming-of-age tale.

Following the success of VOL.1 and VOL.2, Novulent has become a rising voice in alt-rock and internet-born subgenres. Their breakout track “scars” has amassed over 111 million Spotify streams, while VOL.2’s “soul ties” has already surpassed 1.5 million global plays.

Fresh off their first headline tour—closing out in NYC to critical praise—Novulent now channels those experiences into VOL.3. “new low” is only the beginning.
