“Jellyfish” marks a playful new direction for pop powerhouse Sigrid. Listen to her latest release now.
With “Jellyfish,” Norwegian pop artist Sigrid taps into the lighter side of her creativity. A decade into her career, the track reflects the pop star’s ease with herself — both as a vocalist and a woman learning to make space for joy.
The single is the result of a collaborative session with Askjell Solstrand, with whom she shares a 10-year creative relationship. Sigrid’s ability to capture raw emotion with precise production remains intact, but this time, the goal was different.
“It’s my slightly more free-spirited and joyous side,” Sigrid says. “I wanted it to feel easy — like a Scandinavian summer. Flirting can feel so chaotic and stupid, but that’s the best part of it.”
The sound of “Jellyfish” is drenched in indie-pop nostalgia, taking cues from the early 2000s and the music Sigrid grew up loving. Watching Napoleon Dynamite while writing the track adds a playful, oddball tone that echoes throughout the release.
Rather than focusing on heartbreak or grand emotional statements, “Jellyfish” feels like a reset. “I love using my voice as a vessel to pour my heart out,” she says, “but on this song, I wanted it to sound carefree, joyful and playful — maybe a bit nonchalant.”
After landmark moments including Glastonbury and two sold-out world tours, Sigrid returns to her roots — singing because it feels good, not because she has to. “Jellyfish” captures that energy perfectly.
