‘Tokyo Stories’ presents 14 tracks capturing secrets and streets of Tokyo, with bonus song.
Japanese singer‑songwriter MIREI releases concept album, Tokyo Stories via Cool Japan Music / The Orchard.
Written in cafés, transpacific flights, and early morning Zoom sessions, the 14-song set (with a bonus track) plays like a chaptered novella—each song a different street, screen, or secret of the city. It arrives as the most immersive project yet from the genre-blurring rising star.
Viral album opener “UNSENT” ushers in consumate J-pop hooks and raw verses. The track pairs MIREI’s soaring Japanese vocals with blistering English and Chinese verses from rising Mainland rap phenom AK Liu Zhang (AK 刘彰), creating a border‑crossing anthem about the messages we don’t want to send. The single has already inspired millions of fan-made “unsent confession” clips on TikTok and Douyin.
Co-produced by LA based Zak Leever and Brooklyn based sound scaper, DJ Shiftee as well as giving final touch by Tokyo beat-smith Masaaki Saitō, Tokyo Stories stitches vibey electro, grunge hip hop, and sanshin plucks into a seamless, genre-bending ride. Each song feels like a handheld video clip: you can almost see Shibuya’s scramble crossing or taste a conbini espresso at 3 am.
“These songs are my diary pages,” MIREI says. “Tokyo is equal parts beauty,
burnout, danger, and laughter. I want listeners to feel that swirl in real time.”
