Mina Okabe unveils “Always Hurts,” an emotional reflection on love and belonging, ahead of her highly anticipated sophomore album.
Danish-Japanese singer-songwriter Mina Okabe introduces her latest single, “Always Hurts”, a moving reflection on love, change, and emotional resilience. Released via Capitol Records, the track marks her first new music of 2025 and serves as the fourth preview of her upcoming sophomore album, arriving this spring.
Crafted with multi-platinum, GRAMMY®-nominated producer Leroy Clampitt, “Always Hurts” features soft acoustic instrumentation, layered harmonies, and deeply personal lyrics. As the song unfolds, Okabe paints a picture of the pain of leaving loved ones behind, blending delicate piano melodies and immersive textures to create a heartfelt atmosphere.
Sharing the inspiration behind the track, Okabe says:
“I grew up with a Danish dad and a Japanese mom and in different cities. I’ve lived in London, New York, and Manila but now live in Copenhagen. Although I’m very grateful for the experiences it has brought me, and I somewhat got used to leaving places and people behind, there are some people in my life I never want to leave and never would be able to say goodbye to. This song is for and about them.” – Mina Okabe
Following the success of her 2021 debut Better Days, which went four-times platinum in Korea, Okabe’s career has continued to flourish. Her single “Every Second” has earned over 58 million Spotify streams, and she has been recognized as a Spotify RADAR Artist and an Apple Music One To Watch.
With a 2025 Music Moves Europe Awards nomination, a sold-out Japan tour, and appearances at SXSW, Roskilde Festival, Seoul Jazz Festival, and Summer Sonic, Okabe’s global influence continues to grow. “Always Hurts” is another step in her journey toward releasing one of the most anticipated albums of the year.
