Maddie Ashman debuts with “Toffee,” a genre-blending statement of emotional release and complexity.

Maddie Ashman launches her musical career with “Toffee”, a debut single that introduces her as a fearless experimentalist in the avant-pop space. Out now via AWAL, “Toffee” is a dynamic sonic journey, embracing complexity in both sound and feeling.

A seasoned multi-instrumentalist and artist, Ashman brings a bold touch to production, merging falsetto vocals with unexpected instrumentals—mellotrons, glitched cello, and percussive textures all collide to form the core of the track.

The composition, according to Maddie, is deeply personal:
“I wanted to capture what it’s like to feel again and embrace emotions after a long time of suppressing them. The chord sequence was deliberately constructed to create a feeling of being constantly pulled in both directions – almost relentlessly ungrounded, yet also as if nothing is wrong. It’s totally exciting, confusing, empowering and overwhelming.”

Her unique approach has made waves online, where Maddie’s microtonal performances have attracted over 100,000 new Instagram followers in a short period.

With endorsements from Jacob Collier, Caroline Polachek, and others, her rise continues to gain momentum.Following standout appearances at The Great Escape and a sold-out show at Paper Dress Vintage, Maddie will support Sungazer across the UK this year. Festival slots including Klaeng, Left of The Dial, and How The Light Gets In promise to expand her growing live presence.
