LA project Lucky Horse Red tease their debut record, out Sept 26 via Shuga Records.

Los Angeles intersectional, genre-bending project Lucky Horse Red announces their debut, self-titled album will be released on September 26 via Shuga Records. Today’s news is heralded with the new double single release of “Noon Moon” and “Whiskey.”

“Noon Moon” is a song that swims in humid baths of juxtaposition, the lyrics are unbridled, flowing prose reeling up against the sliding warmth of steel guitar. Singer Bunny Gaubert describes today’s single as, “A swampy summer tune. We wanted to create a catchy chorus with group vocals à la Courtney Barnett or Kurt Vile”

And on the other side, “Whiskey” is a tameless country-rock song about coming back to an old lover because you can’t get the same love anywhere else. Gaubert sings, “I heard you nicknamed me whiskey” as she accuses an old flame of needing her trouble.

The Los Angeles 6-piece band is fronted by the endearingly enigmatic Bunny Gaubert, who was previously shot for Playboy. Her voice feels both far away and like something echoing inside of you; simultaneously drunk and stone-cold sober as her writing freely flows like anarchic poetry.

A patchwork of LA DIY royalty, the band is rounded out by Keilah Nina; the former bassist of cult-followed band The AquadollsMark Martino of Babe Ruthless on guitar, multi-instrumentalist and husband Laine Gaubert, steel player Colin Croom of Twin Peaks and MJ Lenderman’s touring band, punk guitarist Jake Melendez of Thee Azmatics, and drummer Mika Rabina who is also the leading lady of Siam Jem

Lucky Horse Red blends psych, rock ‘n’ roll, indie, Americana roots, folk, jazz and punk. It’s sexy and fast and slow. It is mysterious and vulnerable. It is a cinematic universe with an authentic 1960s analog sound projected within the female gaze. A dark, folky trip out West, the album was recorded at Joshua Tree Recording Studio and clocks in at a lucky 13 tracks that hazily yearn for both excess and innocence — Pre-save the album.

Last month, the band played at LA’s Family Affair Folk Fest alongside MirrorballThe Kept Men and more. Over the coming months, fans can keep an eye out for new shows to be announced.
