Lexa Gates shares her hypnotic single “Latency” and a surreal video directed by Ganna Bodgan.

Capitol Records artist Lexa Gates delivers an intimate and introspective new single with “Latency,” a track produced by Jasper Harris and Aaron Shadrow. Known for blending rich textures and personal storytelling, Gates continues that signature approach here—this time exploring the tension between attraction and inertia.

The song floats over a sample of Hamilton Bohannon’s “Tell Me You’ll Wait,” with shimmering piano melodies supporting Lexa’s poised vocal delivery. Her lyrics dissect the energy between unspoken feelings and stalled connection, best captured in the line: “I got ideas of you, making moves on me, what’s with the latency?”

Describing the inspiration behind the track, Lexa shares, “a sexy fantasy of a love left on delay. Waiting for a text back, or a move to be made.” Reflecting on the creative process, she says, “I got in the studio late night with the GOATS. From New York to LA. Being around all these rich older men sparked a curiosity in me. It’s a tale as old as time.”

The track is paired with a whimsical and symbol-heavy video directed by Ganna Bodgan. Within it, Lexa journeys through imagined scenarios and settings—from clubs to upscale summer locations—carrying a massive designer bag representing unmet emotional needs and projected desires. Each scene loops back to the start, underlining the emotional repetition the song evokes.

Following the buzz from her Elite Vessel installation in New York City, where she spent 10 hours in a transparent box as a living art exhibit, Lexa’s unique approach continues to attract attention. That performance has amassed over 300 million views online, solidifying her place among artists who use every medium to express and amplify their message.

She also received the Powerhouse Award at Billboard’s Women in Music event, cementing her position as a leading voice in hip-hop.
