J Balvin drops “Rio,” an introspective reggaeton track about gratitude and self-discovery. Watch the heartfelt music video now.
J Balvin begins 2025 with “Rio,” a track that marks one of his most personal releases to date. Known for his genre-defining reggaeton hits, Balvin takes a reflective turn, using this single to explore themes of personal growth, gratitude, and spiritual healing.
Produced by Mazzarri and ODDLIQUOR, “Rio” balances introspective lyrics with a warm reggaeton beat and a haunting bassline. The opening line, “Hoy le doy las gracias al cielo / por las veces que me equivoque” (Today I give thanks to the heavens / For the times I messed up), sets the tone for the song, which expresses Balvin’s appreciation for life’s lessons. In the chorus, he reflects on priorities with the words, “Pa qué buscar en la calle / Lo que abunda en mi casa” (Why hit the streets to look for / What is plentiful in my house).
Accompanying the track is an intimate music video, composed of footage Balvin captured himself over the years. This raw, behind-the-scenes glimpse into his life adds another layer of vulnerability and connection to the song.
The release of “Rio” coincides with Balvin’s nominations at the 2025 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, where he’s competing for Urban Collaboration of the Year and Urban Album of the Year. The ceremony will air live on February 20 via Univision.
With “Rio,” J Balvin continues to push the boundaries of reggaeton, proving that the genre can be as personal as it is powerful.
