Grace VanderWaal shares ‘Babydoll,’ a bratty pop anthem featuring Aliyah’s Interlude, marking a fresh creative direction.
Grace VanderWaal embraces a new artistic phase with the release of “Babydoll”, featuring Aliyah’s Interlude. The high-energy track follows her introspective single “What’s Left of Me”, offering a contrasting yet exciting new sound. The Sophie Hur-directed music video further brings the song’s attitude to life.
VanderWaal shares the inspiration behind the track:
“In the studio, we were talking about acting bratty, going out, wanting everything, and being a diva. Tiffany Stringer and I had the idea to write a song from our alter ego’s perspective. We named mine Baby Doll: who doesn’t like to be told no. I had an amazing time writing and creating it.”
This release follows an eventful 2024, where VanderWaal showcased her versatility by delivering a standout Kennedy Center Honors performance and starring in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis alongside Adam Driver and Laurence Fishburne. The film premiered at Cannes, receiving a seven-minute standing ovation.
VanderWaal’s career took off in 2016 with her EP Imperfectly Perfect, the year’s best-selling EP, followed by her acclaimed debut album Just The Beginning. Over the years, she has toured with Florence + the Machine and Imagine Dragons and received accolades like the Teen Choice Award and Billboard’s Rising Star Award.
Now independent, VanderWaal is crafting her own path, embracing creative freedom and a new musical direction.
