Melbourne trio Folk B*tch Trio release single “Cathode Ray” and announce debut LP on Jagjaguwar, out July 25.
Melbourne/Naarm-based band Folk B*tch Trio are stepping into a new chapter with their debut album, Now Would Be A Good Time, arriving July 25 via Jagjaguwar. Alongside the announcement, they’ve shared the emotional and sonically rich single “Cathode Ray.”
The song opens delicately but soon unfolds into a powerful meditation on human anxiety and bodily unrest.
“It expresses a feeling of being trapped in myself,” says vocalist Gracie Sinclair, “and wanting to break out of that so violently that I’m literally talking about opening up a body viscerally.”
The track follows their acclaimed debut single “The Actor,” which was named a Rolling Stone “Song You Need to Know” and described as “acidic and gorgeous” by Beats Per Minute.
Recorded in Auckland with Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Marlon Williams), the album features sparse, expressive arrangements that let the band’s three voices and raw storytelling take center stage.
Blending influences from classic rock, Americana, and baroque pop, the trio offers a modern take on folk songwriting, exploring everything from heartbreak and media burnout to fantasy and self-reckoning.
After recent tours across Europe, North America, and Australia, Folk B*tch Trio will return for a headline tour across Australia and New Zealand this September, cementing their place as one of the country’s most compelling new acts.
