Indie artist Ally Evenson releases “The Line,” a playful and eerie new single accompanied by a body horror music video.
Ally Evenson, the genre-defying voice from Michigan’s indie scene, has released “The Line,” a new single that fuses absurdist humor with bold artistic choices. Out now via Assemble Sound/Atlantic Records, the track made its debut on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music 1 show and is already turning heads.
A collaboration with longtime producer nydge, “The Line” walks the edge between comedy and commentary. Its playful composition and unlikely mix of country and D&B underscore an exploration of intrusive thoughts. “‘The Line’ is a song originally made as a joke,” says Evenson. “After the song was made, we realized it was actually extremely rad…”
The accompanying video goes further, diving into body horror visuals and surreal symbolism. “The video, however, is almost a prequel to my debut album, BLUE SUPER LOVE,” she explains. “I made a joke about eating the blue hat I wear all the time… what a way to switch eras. By vomiting up the hat…”
Evenson first gained recognition through her EP Not So Pretty and quickly cemented her place with In My Dreams, You Laugh at Me. Known for her emotionally charged lyrics and inventive production, she continues to defy genre expectations while earning praise from Pitchfork and Pigeons & Planes. “The Line” pushes that boundary even further, introducing a fresh artistic lens through which her audience can experience her evolving creative vision.
