In the first stage of his music career, Cody Simpson achieved great things: a Billboard Top 10 for his second album ‘Surfer’s Paradise’, and both a tour and a big collaboration with Justin Bieber on ‘Home To Mama’. But in 2020 he made international headlines when he decided to step away from music to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming an elite competitive swimmer. That new ambition peaked at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where as part of the Australian team, he won Gold in the 4x100m men’s freestyle relay and Silver in the4×100 men’s medley relay.

Now, after retiring from swimming in 2024, he’s back in the world of music with his brand new single ‘Baby Blue’. Released alongside a second new song in the shape of ‘When It Comes To Loving You’, both tracks are released via Cody’s new deal with BMG.

The two upbeat tracks are an unabashed expression of joy, emblematic of Cody’s excitement to be back in the studio after a long hiatus. The songs are co-written by Cody Simpson and produced by Harrison Borts, and their teasers generated huge anticipation for Cody’s comeback. They mark just the beginning of what fans can expect to be a big year from the singer.

Cody says, “In my return to music, I had been experimenting in the studio for almost a year when one day I came in extremely open hearted and open-minded, sensing something vibrant and new wanted to come through. I intended to create something that felt like the coming of spring, like a pure expression of joy whilst sounding cool enough to throw on driving down the highway with your mates. I grabbed a guitar next to my friend and producer Harrison Borts on synths, and this is where the sound that birthed ‘Baby Blue’ and ‘When It Comes To Loving You’ was born. I hope everybody enjoys listening to them as much as I enjoyed making them. I’ve been buzzing ever since!”

‘Baby Blue’ is accompanied by a music video, directed by Antony Muse. The video follows Cody as he embarks on a journey across Los Angeles on foot, performing and dancing the entire way as he meets strangers along his path. As the song ends, Cody walks into a darkened building and the screen cuts to black. The narrative continues into a second act with the ‘When It Comes To Loving You’ video, which depicts the aggression and bonding that comes with an underground ‘Fight Club’-style scenario.
