myah’s debut explores heartbreak, resilience, and emotional truth across an alt/indie-pop landscape.
Los Angeles-based alt/indie pop singer-songwriter and filmmaker myah shares her debut album i don’t know what i’m feeling out now. Aiming to catch her breath, first track “dissolve” is a deep dive into the pain of loss and heartbreak that builds with an expansive, emo-tinged sonic landscape. The full project sees myah learn to fall apart only to piece herself back together on a complete, emotional journey of growth and self-discovery.
The punchy long-awaited LP is a confessional, bittersweet reflection on the highs and lows of love and self-discovery. Through 17 tracks, the musician captures falling in and out of love–the butterflies, joy, turbulence, heartache, anger and everything in between–as she comes to terms with love not always being the fairytale it appears to be. Myah shares, “It touches on the crisis you experience as you start to get older and realize that romance and love aren’t what you’ve been told your whole life. It’s toxic and devastating and confusing; it can feel like you’re on top of the world one day and then like your whole world is falling apart the next.”
A cohesive body of work, each song seamlessly flows together to weave a true, heartfelt story of love and loss and navigating through one’s twenties. Myah continues,“Every song is intertwined from start to finish and it’s meant to be listened to in order. It’s designed so that when people finish the album, they’re left wondering where I am now, and the truth is, I don’t know either. Because, well..i don’t know what i’m feeling.”
Out with the full project is the album’s honest pop-grunge opener, “dissolve.” The artist sees it as a quintessentially myah song–a sonic representation of her–filled with equal amounts of emo angst and yearning. Myah explains, “With the first lyric, “uh-oh, I’ve done it again,” it introduces the cycle of vulnerability, blind romanticism, and longing that runs through the project. It’s warm and nostalgic, but emotionally, it’s cathartic and desperate, which is kind of my signature. It’s the perfect intro to what “myah” sounds like.”
myah is both a musician and an accomplished music video producer who has worked with a long list of illustrious artists including The Marias, Kehlani, Tinashe, Steve Aoki, Oliver Tree and more. Raised in South Florida, myah’s sound blends alternative rock, pop, and pop-punk melodies with midwest emo inspired guitar riffs and pulls inspiration from a range of artists like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Foxing and Modest Mouse. Earlier this year, her fan-favorite music video for “the lobby” won a Telly Award and garnered over 160K views.
Now, stepping in front of the camera, myah is here to introduce herself as she tells her story on her own terms with her first official studio album. Through a soft pop, lush soundscape, myah immerses listeners in a dreamlike, romantic world soaked in nostalgia, honesty and self-awareness to share her experiences, explore the difficulties of pursuing art, and express herself, as well as offer a place of comfort and understanding for her growing fan base.
Myah’s dreamy debut album i don’t know what i’m feeling, out now, brings listeners on a deeply personal emotional voyage. Stay up to date with the musician and filmmaker–connect via Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
