Lights explores dual sonic worlds on “WHITE PAPER PALM TREES” and “SURFACE TENSION,” out now.
Canadian electro-pop innovator Lights returns with a dual single release that captures the artistic tension and range at the heart of her upcoming album A6. “WHITE PAPER PALM TREES” and “SURFACE TENSION,” both written and produced by Lights, are out now and offer two distinctly different yet complementary views into her next chapter.
“WHITE PAPER PALM TREES” pulls from Lights’ earliest influences, marked by shimmering synths and nostalgic textures. Meanwhile, “SURFACE TENSION” shifts tone entirely—embracing dark wave, brooding new wave production, and German-language lyrics that further reflect the European influence shaping A6.
“I couldn’t decide which song to release because I feel like both appeal to such different sides of the fan base,” Lights shares. “I had the idea to release both simultaneously and let the fans decide where they stand.”
To accompany the songs, Lights created two visually synchronized music videos—directed and edited by her—that can be played simultaneously for an interactive experience. The visuals reflect each song’s mood while revealing a cohesive vision when viewed side by side.
These releases follow earlier singles “ALIVE AGAIN” and “DAMAGE,” helping paint a fuller picture of A6’s experimental scope. The album is now available for pre-order, with exclusive formats like orange crush colored vinyl and signed editions.
Lights will celebrate the album with a fan-focused Los Angeles event—Lights at Slipper Clutch (A)Live Again – an A6 Night—on April 15. Entry is accessible through her TikTok. Her North American tour kicks off soon after, promising a full-circle moment for fans new and old.
