James Barker Band’s “You Didn’t Hear It From Me” reflects small-town heartbreak, marking their first release with Universal Music Canada.
Award-winning country group James Barker Band has returned with a new single, “You Didn’t Hear It From Me,” kicking off an exciting chapter after reuniting with Universal Music Canada. The track showcases the band’s knack for storytelling, diving into the raw emotions of heartbreak and small-town vulnerability.
“You Didn’t Hear It From Me” captures the bittersweet feeling of running into your ex’s friends while masking your pain. Written from a deeply personal perspective, the song explores the tension between keeping heartbreak private and secretly hoping your ex hears about how much they’re missed.
“This song came from my own experiences with small-town breakups,” says James Barker (lead vocals/guitar). “You try to act like everything’s fine, but inside, you’re hurting. It’s a hard balance—wanting to keep it quiet, but also wanting them to know how much you miss them.”
The track is accompanied by an official music video, adding a visual element to the band’s emotional storytelling.
Since their breakout performance at the 2015 Emerging Artist Showcase at Boots and Hearts Music Festival, James Barker Band—comprised of James Barker, Connor Stephen, Taylor Abram, and Bobby Martin—has delivered hits like “Lawn Chair Lazy,” which earned Platinum certification.
With “You Didn’t Hear It From Me,” the band continues to connect with fans through heartfelt and relatable music, proving once again why they’re a mainstay in the country music scene.
